The 11 foot patio umbrella is the largest outdoor parasol on the market. These huge shade canopies add cover quickly and efficiently using either a crank to lift (aluminum patio umbrellas) or a pulley and rope manual lift (wood patio umbrellas). Most eleven foot patio umbrellas do not tilt due to their extended diameter which would drop the leading edge nearly to table height. This is particularly a concern in a commercial setting such as a restaurant or resort where foot traffic around the shaded areas should be unobstructed.
There are several considerations involved in making an informed purchase of a patio umbrella. You have come to this site, so we assume you have narrowed your preference to an 11-footer. But do you really need to buy an entire umbrella? We have been in the business of providing shade for decades and learned that at least half of our visitors really just need a replacement patio umbrella canopy or a replacement patio umbrella frame. Purchasing just the part you need saves lots of money in product cost and shipping (Remember, the large patio umbrellas ship at oversized rates). We offer the internet’s largest selection of replacement parts for outdoor umbrellas. We service what we sell. And we feature this handy how-to-measure-your-umbrella video to ensure you get the right part the first time.
The next aspect to consider in selecting any patio umbrella is deciding on which material is best suited for its framework: wood or metal. The frame consists of two sections: The lower support pole and the top canopy pole/rib section.
Many options are available if a tilting patio umbrella is preferred (remember, we live north of the equator so the sun will never be directly overhead). Most manufacturers use the standard push button release to tilt the umbrella’s top section. This allows the umbrella to tilt at the neck in either a right or left position without having to rotate the supporting center pole by 180 degrees.
Important note: the standard tilting mechanism can be tough to activate when the umbrella is inserted to a patio table. There are many clever workarounds to solve this problem. The 11 foot auto tilt patio umbrella employees a gravity-activated release to the canopy. The user simply cranks the umbrella to fully opened and taught position. One more turn of the crank releases the canopy to one side and one side only. This requires the user to twirl the center support pole in order to maximize the shady spot cast down below. This maneuver must repeated as the sun tracks throughout the afternoon requiring that the umbrella base tightening screws be loosened enough to allow the manipulation.
